Applying for a Community Road Safety Grant is a four step process: 

 

Step 1. Read the Community Road Safety Grants Program Guidelines.

Step 2. Complete and submit this pre-eligibility form. This will indicate to the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) what program/s you'd like to apply for. Your pre-eligibility application will then be assessed, and if eligible, the appropriate program application form/s will be added to your SmartyGrants account for you to complete.

Step 3. Complete and submit the grant application form/s with reference to the guidelines.

Step 4. Submit.

 

Your eligibility for the Community Road Safety Grants Program will be assessed according to your responses in this form. Once assessed as eligible, the appropriate program application form/s will be added to SmartyGrants for you to complete. 

Program application form/s need to be completed and submitted by 3pm on Wednesday 18 March 2026.

If your group is not incorporated, your application will need to be auspiced by an incorporated organisation who can manage the funds on your behalf. If funding is approved for your application, the grant will be made out to the auspice organisation.

Insurance

If you are successful in receiving funding through the Community Road Safety Grants Program, you will automatically be eligible to receive the following insurance:

  • Public Liability
  • Professional Indemnity
  • General Property
  • Voluntary Workers
  • Child Abuse Insurance

Successful applicants who will be delivering a service to children or young people under the age of 18 will automatically receive child abuse insurance. Child abuse insurance must meet certain minimum standards in order to meet the new insurance requirement. Please review the ‘Victorian funding requirements for services to children fact sheet' for more information. 

Insurance is available for applicants who deliver approved road safety programs funded as part of the Community Road Safety Grants Programs.

Insurance certificates will be made available to you late July, early August.
