Funding is available for the treatment of Black Spot sites, or blacklengths, with a proven history of crashes. The requirement of a history of crashes ensures that those sites that have a recurrent problem are targeted first for treatment.
The Black Spot Program also recognises that there are road locations that could be considered as 'accidents waiting to happen'. Therefore, projects where road traffic engineers have completed a Road Safety Audit or Safe System Assessment and found that remedial work is necessary are eligible. This allows an opportunity for proactive safety works to be undertaken before casualties occur.
I have:
- read the Black Spot site eligibility criteria
- developed the project in accordance with the program guidelines
- where appropriate, undertaken a Road Safety Audit or Safe System Assessment (as attached to the application). This is necessary to be considered eligible as a proactive project.
